Investing in quality child care will help both our
economy and our children thrive in the long run.
More than 800 parents, business leaders, elected
officials, health care providers, early childhood
professionals and others from across the state came
together this year to speak to the importance of
investing in our youngest citizens. All agreed
that ensuring access to high quality early childhood
care and education programs needed to be a top priority
for the state. investments in young children do
not just benefit the individual child. Investments
in young children are one of the strongest investments
not only for the short term, but also for sustained
growth
and job creation.

MORE AT FOUR PROGRAM RECOGNIZED
North Carolina is one of the top two states nationally
for state pre-kindergarten program quality, meeting all
10 quality benchmarks, and is one of the top ten states
overall for quality standards, enrollment, funding, and
evidence of effectiveness, according to NIEER.
"North Carolina is proud and fortunate to be home to one
of the nation's top academic pre-k programs," said State
Superintendent June Atkinson. "More at Four serves
nearly 32,000 at-risk 4-year-olds each year, giving them
the opportunity to make substantial gains across key
school readiness indicators, including language and
literacy, math, general knowledge and social skills."
