Smart Start of Brunswick County works with many different agencies that provide services to children and families throughout Brunswick County to identify needed programs, services and resources to meet these needs. By blending and leveraging existing resources and providing funding through Smart Start, private donations or grants, the following programs are made possible to the young children and families in Brunswick County:
Smart Start Parents As Teachers Parent educators, including bilingual parent educators, provide information to parents on the stages of child development, learning materials and how to meet their child's needs. They conduct screenings and link parents to other community resources. The PAT educators conduct home visits and hold group events and meetings.

Raising a Reader fosters a reading routine whereby children from local child care centers bring home bright red bags filled with high-quality picture books each week. The books feature artwork, age-appropriate language, and multicultural themes. Raising a Reader mission fosters healthy brain development, parent–child bonding, and early literacy skills critical for school success.
