July 29th, 2025 -6:30-8:30pm-Where’s the Math? $10-Participants will discover that effective math learning is rooted in conceptual understanding. They will learn that “mathematizing” involves recognizing math in everyday life and applying mathematical language and concepts to analyze and explore various situations. We will discuss the importance of teachers using math words to describe the day’s schedule or sequence to children. During number talks, teachers can demonstrate using their fingers to represent numbers. For 2-year-olds, teachers should point to printed numbers. Participants will also learn how to help children tackle real-life problems and conflicts. For instance, when a child expresses that it’s unfair for Joey to have two cars while Julie has four, participants will guide them to think about possible solutions. They will use time and numbers to resolve this scenario together. Finally, participants will develop purposeful learning experiences and lesson plans centered around the concept of mathematizing.
The training will take place in-person at the SSBC, located at 632 Village Rd. STE 1, Shallotte, NC. Participants will earn 2 credit hours. The deadline to register is July 24, 2025, by 5:00 PM.
